Our jeep safari tour for the southern part of the island mainly addresses to the guests staying in accommodation in the south of Corfu. Our route features as a starting point the summer resort of Moraitika, where our party of 6 is picked up so that the adventure can begin.
Right at the beginning of our trip, information on Saint Spyridon*, the Venetians*, the 4.500.000 evergreen trees* and the route of our private tour is given.
First we visit the church of Taxiarchon in the village of Chlomos* in order to enjoy the panoramic view of the southern part of the island. After that, we wander around the traditional village so that we can get a glimpse of the unique architecture and the everyday lives of the locals. Chlomos is also an ideal place to experience the traditional Greek coffee along with the magical liquid which accompanies it that only the people living in the villages of Corfu know about.
Following our quick break, we visit the rest of the villages of the south on a route that is full of olive oil groves, covering the 70% of the island’s vegetation. Our next stop is Pontiglio Winery (Mpampis Kouris), a small charming vineyard where we get to taste the local wine before arriving in the lake Korission.
Lake Korission is a unique place in Corfu as it stretches on the left side of Halikounas beach and has a very rich ecosystem. It is also protected by Natura 2000 due to its rare flora and fauna. Depending on the time of the year, you can see Flamingos, ducks, cormorants and thousands of colorful butterflies.
Through our offroad route, we get to see countless of olive oil trees, many kilometers of long sandy beaches and most importantly we get to explore unique places untouched by mass tourism.
It wouldn’t be a tour of the south of Corfu if we did not stop at the village of Agios Matthaios and more specifically at “the Governor”. Here, Dafnis family produces its own olive oil and we get to try it out through a unique olive oil tasting experience. The family business is very popular not only in Greece but also around the world as the famous bottles with Ioannis Kapodistrias illustrated are being sold even at Harrods in London.
After this one of a kind experience, we visit the traditional village of Pentati where Sofia will prepare for us local delicacies as we get to enjoy the endless blue of the Ionian Sea. This will be our last stop before returning to our starting point in Moraitika, on a route filled with nature’s greatest miracles, lush landscapes and picturesque woods.
The duration of this tour is approximately 6 hours. This is a half day tour and it carried out in English, German and Greek. Prices depend on tour choices and dates.
This off road excursion is feasible only by Jeep and they are not recommended for people suffering from car sickness or have other medical conditions that prevents them from joining.
